The World Beyond Memory arrives October 30. Whether you read Book I in July or you’re deciding whether to start the series, this guide gets you ready without spoiling the big reveals.
Where the story begins
The World Beneath Memory opens with Tarian Valeis waking injured and alone in the dangerous wilds near the Vale of Briar. He has his name and nothing else. His instincts still work, though, and certain names keep surfacing: Aldren, Seren, Kaelin. Following them pulls him across hostile country toward a settlement called Hearthwall, and toward a family at the center of a growing conflict over what the old world left behind.
The people who matter
- Tarian — brave, impulsive and stubbornly loyal. Not a chosen hero, just a man who keeps moving toward danger when the people he loves are at risk.
- Kaelin — Tarian’s younger sister. She senses patterns others miss: animals, storms, fear, the wrongness of an old room. Some see a miracle, some a resource. Her family sees a girl.
- Lyra — a hunter and road-wise survivor from the Vale of Briar. Slow to trust, sharp-tongued, and fiercely loyal once she decides you’re worth it.
- Seren — Tarian and Kaelin’s mother, and the steady heart of Hearthwall. Her love is practical, and her boundaries are absolute.
- Aldren — their father: builder, defender and keeper of dangerous truths. He protects by preparing, and sometimes by staying silent too long.
The road so far
Book I travels from the Vale of Briar through Rivermeet and the Red Pass to Hearthwall, then down into places that were buried long before anyone alive was born. Along the way, the settlements fracture over a single question: should the old world’s knowledge be reclaimed, or left buried?
The questions Book II picks up
- What did the people who came before leave running beneath the world?
- What is the strange mark on Tarian, and what does it connect him to?
- Can Kaelin be protected without being caged, or used without being lost?
- And beyond the silent skies: is anyone still out there?
In The World Beyond Memory, the story widens from fantasy into science fantasy: drowned gardens, buried transit networks, moving cities, and machines still obeying orders issued centuries ago. A new adversary, Vasker Hal, believes some knowledge was forgotten for good reason.
